Truck Drivers Need A Solid Business Plan

Monday, August 10th, 2009

business plan
For individuals that drive a truck full time, having a solid business plan can make or break their careers. For a truck driver its easy to see your earnings evaporate due to poor planning and unplanned expenses. To prevent that from happening to you, we suggest you have a business plan.

As a trucker its important to remember that running a business and running a truck are different things. Having a defined yet simple business plan will work in your favor. It will require dedication to your business and it will require that you do your due diligence to make the plan.

Having a business plan, however simple a plan, will keep you focused
and make you goal orientated. When you have a plan you will be able to compare your progress to the
goals in your plan. When you are out on the road and you make decisions with your business plan in mind, you will see steady and predictable levels of income. If you use the shoot from the hip approach you will find that the unpredictable income levels will become stressful when you need to make repairs or have unplanned expenses. Constantly making decisions that have your business plan in
mind will keep your level of performance high.

Another nice benefit you will receive when you make business plan for your trucking jobs is the budget forming process. You might plan on annual expenses for maintenance. When you have those expenses in your plan you can then budget for them. Maybe you set aside “X” amount per week to cover repairs. The bottom line is you’ll have a budget and it will be much easier to keep to it.

Budgeting and planning will be especially helpful when it comes to making budgets for food and entertainment. A lot of drivers on the road will tell you that they spend a lot of money at trucks stops and on fast food. Well, if you have a budget that your are trying to stick to you will be less likely to deviate from the budget. Hopefully that alone will keep more money in your pocket an who knows it might even keep a few pounds off too!

Budgeting for an expense will prevent it from becoming a surprise down the road. Fewer surprises for an over the road truck driver means fewer stressful days behind the wheel. The job is going to get stress full sometime so its always a good idea to avoid as much of it as possible. Click Here for some stress relief tips.

Overall creating a business plan will help you see and understand the financial side of the trucking business. Follow the tips above and you will be headed towards a profitable truck driving job.

C.R. England Optimizing Transportation Processes With Manhattan Carrier(tm) Solutions

ATLANTA, Aug. 3, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — C.R. England, the largest refrigerated truckload carrier in the United States, is reducing empty miles and improving resource utilization with solutions within the Manhattan Carrier(tm) product suite from Manhattan Associates (Nasdaq:MANH). The Driver&Load(r) solution matches specific C.R. England drivers to the best possible load, while Drop&Swap(r) quickly identifies service, home-time and utilization issues anywhere within its fleet and determines the optimal “swap” — managing drivers’ hours of service and time-at-home while ensuring on-time performance.

In addition, the company soon will be live with Load Analyzer(r), also part of Manhattan Carrier, which will allow C.R. England to respond to load requests and solicit freight based on current and future capacity.
