Depression is becoming a common problem among Americans today. Jobs that impose high levels of psychological demands such as truck driving may be at an increased risk. Things such as sleep deprivation and loneliness are common among truck drivers and create more cases of depression. Although this life style is a hard one there are certain steps that can be taken to help with depression and improve the life of all drivers.

One way to prevent depression is to maintain a healthy life style. Eating healthy and exercising as much as possible while on the road will improve your over all mood and energy. Try to add more fruits and vegetables into your diet and drink more water. Doing this will improve your over all quality of life and will help you feel happier and better about yourself.

Another tip to avoid depression is to reach out and help someone else. Psychologists sometimes recommend volunteer work to their patients as a healing mechanism. Although its hard to volunteer while on the road look for small opportunities to help another person out. Open the door for someone walking into the convenient store, slow down to let a car in your lane, or say thank you to anyone that helps you along the way. Any little bit helps and as you help others you are really helping yourself.

Keeping in communication with family and friends is a great way to fight depression. This may be the hardest one but it is effective. Call when you are at stop, write a letter when you can’t sleep or send a postcard from a favorite city. Any communication is appreciated and it gives you something productive to do and think about.

Even if you aren’t fighting with depression these steps are a great way to improve the over all quality of your life.

Check this out! Qualcomm and GreenRoad are working together and they have created a device that actually monitors “safety and driving behavior.” Called the MRM/Driving Behavior Solution, it is the first in existence of one mechanism that sends feedback information about mobile resource management and driving behavior management from one source of data. Very cool indeed!

Do you know what this means?  It means that fleet owners have a more simplified process of gathering information from their trucks and save money as well.  As the article states;

“Qualcomm’s Service Fleet Manager mobile resource management system uses GPS technology to give fleets visibility into their assets and provide an immediate snapshot of critical vehicle information through a web-based interface.”

Earthtimes.org wrote an article about the MRM/Driving Behavior Solution, and interviewed Norman Ellis. He is quoted as saying:

“Mobile resource management and driver safety are vital issues to every local service fleet,” said Norman Ellis, vice president of sales, services and marketing at Qualcomm Enterprise Services. ”GreenRoad’s unique driving behavior service offers a different dimension to our mobile resource management offering, enabling our customers to obtain more value from each of the two services. We are proud to work with GreenRoad and offer the first combined mobile resource management and driving behavior service.”

If one of a fleet owner’s truck drivers takes risk that could hurt people or their truck, the information is instantly sent back to the office so that someone is aware and can take immediate action. This is a wonderful program that may save lives.

Save money and have more access to truck information to protect from hazardous driving and mechanical problems. That’s a win-win for me!

Veteran truck drivers now have the opportunity for classroom lessons by CR England for HAZMAT endorsement. This is a great opportunity for drivers who may need to use the endorsement in the future. If you do not have to have the HAZMAT endorsement for your current job, it might be a good idea to take this class for future loads. You never know when you might need a HAZMAT endorsement in your career. Nothing shouts “do it now” like “get in for free”.

Wonder if you are ready to just walk in and take the exam? Few people can pass the exam without a class or some hours studying. We have put together a few cdl jobs related practice questions for a truck driver to have a sense of what is on the HAZMAT exam. Take a look and see how well you know the answers before taking your state exam. All answers have straightforward solutions:

A vehicle placarded for hazardous materials will have placards on how many sides?

Who is responsible for finding out what permits or special routes you will need to haul hazardous materials?

While doing your normal truck job duties you encounter a traffic accident where one of the vehicles involved was hauling explosives, should you pull them apart?

When you need to stop for railroad tracks, how many feet before the tracks should you stop?

Should you stop before railroad tracks if you are hauling 110 gallons of Chlorine?

How did you do? We hope these questions helped you in understanding if you would pass the state HAZMAT endorsement test. The CR England HAZMAT endorsement training is voluntary, but if you are looking for a truck-driving job, it is highly recommended to help you be more prepared for any Trucking Company. Visit http://www.CREngland.com to learn more about this course and other courses available to CRE drivers.

If Factories Are Expanding This Is Good News For Truckers.

A recent release on Bloomberg told of Manufacturing in the U.S. expanding faster than anticipated in the month of October. This is great news for truckers if this continues. We all know who is going to deliver all the increased volume. Trucking Companies.

This recent release is another piece of data that is easing concerns that the economic recovery will be cut short when the entire government stimulus begins to run out. The pessimistic believe that the recovery is like pump that was primed by the hands of government that will run dry when the pumping stops.

The optimistic say otherwise and the increase in manufacturing may begin to lean more people towards a belief in this recovery. In the article an executive was quoted

“The economic outlook is brightening,” said Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. in New York. “Manufacturing is in the driving seat at this stage of the recovery. Housing has turned the corner.”

Another quote from the article by John Herrmann said “The recovery remains firmly on track.”

This makes as good a time as any to get into the trucking business. As the economy recovers their will be plenty of jobs for people that have had CDL training. Contact CR England if you would like addition information about CDL training.

CDL Jobs Pay Better With Good Fuel Economy

Keep more of your green in your pocket. Your CDL Jobs pay better when your not wasting profits on the cost of fuel.

CDL jobs can pay really good. Your income can exceed $40,000 per year depending on how you manage your expenses. Your income can be significantly effected by poor fuel economy. We decided to post a list of things you can do to minimize fuel waste and increase your fuel economy. Following these suggestions will give you the opportunity to keep more of your income in your pocket.

The areas we have identified as good ways to increase fuel economy are limiting your speed, RPM management, idle reduction, equipment maintenance, and staying on route.

Limiting your speed:

Every 5 miles per hour you slow down will give you an extra ½ mile per gallon. Set your cruise around sixty instead of 65 and you’ll see a savings.

RPM Management:

Maintaining good smooth acceleration and smooth deceleration will keep you under 1800 RPM. The fewer miles you drive at higher RPM’s the better mileage you will get and this will make your CDL jobs pay better in the long run.

Keep Idle Times To A Minimum:

Ignore that old wives tail that says starting and stopping the engine burns more fuel than idling and you will save some serious money. It is just a myth.

Regular Maintenance:

A well-maintained tractor burns less fuel so keep up on your maintenance. Regular tire pressure checks and air filter checks will keep your equipment running efficiently. Poor tire pressure and air filters can create poor fuel economy quickly.

Staying on Your Route:

Staying on route assures you that you get paid for the miles you drive. Think twice before taking that detour for personal reasons and you’ll drive fewer non-paid miles.

Following the advice above will help you run a more profitable business for yourself., and keep more money in your bank account. CDL Jobs are exciting. Visit our trucking company website for information about the CDL Jobs we have open.

Avoid job insecurity and give CDL jobs a hard look to see if trucking is for you.

The Toronto star wrote a brief article that discussed the issue of job insecurity that is weeping the world over. Employers in both already developed markets and emerging economies are turning to temporary workers, part time workers, even just contracting with employees. The phrase many commentators are using to describe this new labor management strategy is the “New Normal”

Most businesses do this so that they can remain nimble and avoid major expenses if the company needs to cut employees of the payroll. For people interested in cdl jobs and the jobs truck drivers do, the trucking industry can be an alternative to this “New Normal.”

The Toronto Star also discussed that this new phenomena is most likely going to continue and that many jobs that were thought to be permanent will not be coming back when the economy recovers. That is very important to to consider if your thinking you’ll just get another job in the same field when the economy recovers.

Trucking companies are always trying to fill their open cdl jobs . The industry in general is always on the list of good places to get a job if your looking for a career that is in high demand. There is no doubt that CR England fits into that. The company is always trying to hire great people.

Stay off the “New Normal” bandwagon and look into cdl jobs with an industry leader that hasn’t laid off a truck driver in its 90-year history.
